Shakira has never known her biological father. Her mother was impregnated by a long distance Truck driver when she worked as a House-Help in the City of Kampala. The truck driver never returned after learning about Shakira’s mum’s pregnancy.

Shakira’s mum’s employers sent her packing back to her mother in the village. Upon giving birth, Shakira’s mother abandoned her in the village and left and hasn’t been seen since. Getting what to eat is a tug of war because both Petu’s parents as well as her siblings don’t have any economic activity carried out from which they can earn a living. They only depend on getting a few food stuffs from people who they work on their crop farms.

The worst of it all, the Petu’s father is a drunkard who most of the times on top of mistreating and beating them at home, he goes ahead and misuses the little money earned from working on people’s farms by taking alcohol, leaving his dependent at home starving.
